Flea Market Finds for Your Home

When you shop for home decorations at a flea market, it is usually a budget-friendly way to add charm to your home. You will see pieces that you might not have noticed anywhere else, but you’ll have to sift through a lot of junk to find treasures.

From new homeowners to TV DIY experts, flea market finds are fun for everyone to include in their house. The experts advise that you buy items from different vendors, to give your choices variety. You can always refinish pieces to match the look you want in your home. This makes your home even more original.

What Do You Need?

If you appreciate antiques, you may enjoy time spent searching through vintage items. Even though the flea market is a perfect place to wander, it’s best if you have a list of the basic types of décor or furnishings you need in your home, so you don’t end up with lots of cool stuff and no place to put it.

How Much Will You Spend?

Flea market finds are not usually expensive, but some vendors think that old equals pricey. Have an idea of your budget before you head out the door. If you find something you really like but it seems too expensive, and the vendor won’t barter, Google the item or check eBay for similar items on your smartphone and see what it’s really worth.

Flea markets can sometimes have fresh fruit and vegetables so you can get shopping done as well.

Something Specific Versus a Great Deal

If you are on the lookout for specific items, show up to the flea market early. On the other hand, if you are open as far as the types of pieces you want, you may just be looking for good deals. If this is the case, you can show up later, near closing time, when vendors don’t want to pack everything they have left back into their vehicle to take home. It’s easier to negotiate near closing time.

How Much Room Do You Have?

Scouring flea markets is enjoyable, but you should have an idea of how much space you have to fill before you head out. Measure the spaces for which you are looking for special finds. You can also bring along some samples of colours you already have in a room, to make sure your flea market finds will work well in it.

What Purpose Do Your Chosen Items Have?

It’s a good idea to know what you want before you head off to the flea market. You can use many items in different ways than their original intent, but you don’t want to head home with a bunch of things and no place to show or use them.

Treasure Hunting is not Hoarding

Be sure that you really love an item before you make the purchase and take it home. If you don’t, you’ll end up with a houseful of things that don’t work well together. Check items for mold or rust before you buy. Some pieces will look great outside, but when you get them in the house, they may have serious rust or foul odors. You want items that will work well in your home after you refinish them.
